A&W Happy Hour: 2 for $8 Burgers, 20% App Deal & Free Float
A&W does not publish one nationwide daily Happy Hour. Its active savings are built around limited-time burger deals, a 20% first-app-order offer, Rooty’s Mug Club coupons and free Root Beer Float perks.
A&W restaurants are individually owned and operated, so prices and participation can vary by location.

Annual National Root Beer Float Day
Quick answer: A&W does not have one chainwide daily Happy Hour. The strongest active value is a limited-time 2 for $8 Double Cheeseburgers offer shown on many A&W location pages, plus 20% off a first app order with code 20OFF, Mug Club coupons and free Root Beer Float perks. For menu planning, see the A&W menu.
Does A&W Have Happy Hour?
A&W does not publish one recurring nationwide daily Happy Hour with a fixed afternoon or evening discount window.
Instead, A&W uses limited-time food offers, app promotions and Mug Club coupons. That differs from daily timed offers such as Hardee’s WrAPPy Hour, Bojangles’ afternoon coffee deal and Taco Bell Happier Hour.
| Savings type | A&W approach |
|---|---|
| Nationwide daily Happy Hour | No |
| Limited-time burger deal | 2 for $8 Double Cheeseburgers at participating locations |
| First app order | 20% off with code 20OFF |
| Mug Club | Exclusive coupons by email or text |
| Birthday perk | Free small Root Beer Float coupon |
A&W 2 for $8 Double Cheeseburgers
Many official A&W location pages list a limited-time 2 for $8 Double Cheeseburgers offer.
| Offer detail | What A&W lists |
|---|---|
| Price | 2 Double Cheeseburgers for $8 |
| Item | A&W Double Cheeseburger |
| Availability | Limited time |
| Participation | Varies by restaurant |
Check the selected restaurant before ordering because a location may have different timing, pricing or promotional participation.
20% Off Your First A&W App Order
A&W advertises 20% off the first order placed through the A&W app.
Use promo code 20OFF at checkout when the offer is available for the selected restaurant.
Because the offer is tied to a first app order, it is a signup-style digital discount rather than a repeating Happy Hour.
Rooty’s Mug Club Coupons and Deals
Rooty’s Mug Club is A&W’s email and text offer program.
| Mug Club benefit | How it works |
|---|---|
| Exclusive deals | Coupons sent by email or text |
| Birthday perk | Free Root Beer Float coupon |
| Local relevance | Signup asks for a nearby A&W so offers can match the area |
| Eligibility | U.S. residents age 16 or older |
Mug Club is not a points program. The value comes from delivered coupons and promotional messages rather than points earned per dollar.
Free A&W Birthday Root Beer Float
A&W says Mug Club members receive a free Root Beer Float coupon on their birthday every year.
The A&W FAQ describes the birthday benefit as a free small Root Beer Float coupon.
Add the correct birthday during signup and check the delivered coupon for its redemption window and participating-location terms.
Free Small Root Beer Float for Mug Club Text Signup
A&W’s official Mug Club texting signup page also advertises a free small Root Beer Float coupon for joining text messages.
The coupon is delivered through the signup flow and can become unavailable after it is used or printed.
Text message frequency varies and standard message or data rates may apply.
Why A&W Prices and Deals Vary by Location
A&W says its U.S. restaurants are individually owned and operated, so local pricing can vary.
| What may vary | What to do |
|---|---|
| Burger deal participation | Check the selected A&W location page |
| Menu prices | Confirm at the local restaurant or ordering screen |
| Coupon acceptance | Read the individual coupon terms |
| Operating hours | Use the local A&W location listing |
| Limited-time items | Confirm local availability before ordering |
For customization ideas rather than discounts, see the A&W secret menu.
A&W Seasonal Items Are Not Automatically Happy Hour Deals
A&W is featuring limited-time items such as the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, Caramel Dirty Root Beer and Caramel Root Beer Cream Freeze.
These are menu launches, not automatic discounts unless a separate coupon or promotion says otherwise.
Always separate a limited-time menu item from a limited-time price deal when comparing value.
National Root Beer Float Day Is an Annual Event, Not Daily Happy Hour
A&W celebrates National Root Beer Float Day every August 6.
| 2026 Float Day detail | Offer |
|---|---|
| Date | August 6, 2026 |
| Time | 2 PM to 8 PM |
| Offer | Free small Root Beer Float |
| Where | Participating U.S. A&W Restaurants |
| Charity tie-in | Optional support for Disabled American Veterans |
A&W says the celebration returns every August 6, but the exact future event terms should be checked when the date approaches.

- For a first app order, check whether promo code 20OFF is available at checkout.
- Join Rooty’s Mug Club for email or text coupons and the birthday float benefit.

A&W vs Other Happy Hour Styles
A&W relies on local limited-time deals, app discounts and coupon messaging instead of a daily chainwide Happy Hour.
For true timed daily offers, compare Hardee’s, Bojangles or Taco Bell.
For a late-night value window plus points, see Carl’s Jr.. For diner meal deals and loyalty, compare Denny’s. For app and coupon savings, see Wendy’s.
